INAUGURATION OF MAMI 2008

Mumbai, MARCH 6:

It was a delightful evening when the International MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) kicked off in a traditional yet glamorous way at the Imax Adlabs.

The festival now in its Tenth year now will showcase films from across the globe for an entire week ending on March 13th.

With dignitaries from across the world, Bollywood personalities and a large number of film enthusiasts. The media was kept on its toes as one by one, the celebrities started piling inside the venue. The anchor introduced the whole fest in brief.

Legendary Director, one of the celebs of the occasion Mr.Shyam Benegal was welcomed on stage. He expressed hope that the fest would get better with each passing year. He thanked everyone who was involved in committee of MAMI.

Mr.Sudhir Nandgaonkar, Director of MAMI said,” I am proud to organize such a great show.

A 5-minute digital film competition called “Dimensions Mumbai” for youth below 25 from Mumbai on the theme “Metropolis of Mumbai” was also talked about. This competition section has a cash prize of USD 2500. The international delegates were felicitated along with the celebrities Mr.Sachin, Mrs. Neeta Vashist and many others.

Mr. Yash chopra was the chief guest of the occasion and inaugurated the event by the Indian custom of lighting the Lamp along with all the trustees of MAMI.

Secretary of MAMI, Mr. Kiran Shantaram spoke about the whole event and thanked the main sponsor of the whole event “Reliance entertainment”.




The opening Gala Night on the 6th of March’08 at IMAX ADLABS marks the screening of the Oscar nominated film “Katyn”. The film was premiered at the recently concluded 58th Berlin Film Festival. The film talks about individual sufferings & emotions rather than boring historical facts. Produced with the most advanced technologies this film boasts of being the only film not only in Poland but the entire Europe to be shot on 4K technology. (4K is a technology which enables four times higher resolution in post production than commonly used 2K process).
A must watch film; Director Andrzej Wajda, one of the filmmakers in focus, is one genius to look out for with the kind of films he has managed throughout the festival.
Reliance Big Entertainment of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group is the sponsorer of the weeklong festival which will see the screening of 140 films from 45 countries in Adlabs Wadala, Metro Adlabs and Cinemax Versova.


The awards night that will take part in the later stages of the fest will mark the end of the extravaganza actors Dharmendra and Rishi Kapoor, writers Gulzar and Hitendra Ghosh who will be felicitated for their contributions to the Indian film industry.
As many as 140 films from 45 countries, a special short film segment and a retrospective of Ritwik Ghatak's works - the upcoming version of Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image's (MAMI) International Film Festival has all this and much more.Retrospectives of the works Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda are also scheduled to happen..
